Glen Ord
Situated in Scot highlands, Glen Ord distillery is the single most remaining single malt distillery amidst the Black Isle. The main production is an exotic 12 year old scotch.
History
King Alexander III gave off the west Scottish lands to MacKenzie in the mid-1200. Later, a big part of that land was used for barley cultivation and the land was leased out for making a distillery.
Initially it was known as the Ord Distillery Company, possessed by Donald MacLennan and Robert Johnstone who ran out of money in 1847. The distillery operated for some years, just before it was again possessed by Thomas McGregor and Alexander McLennan. After the death of McLennan in the year 1870, his widow was married to MacKenzie. Later he sold it to James Watson & Son from Dundee. After being owned by Thomas Dewars & Sons, the distillery was again bought by Scottish Malt Distillers, which was a secondary to Distillers Company Ltd.
After closing down in 1939, the company did not open till 1946. After taken over by Guinness, in recent times the distillery continues its age old tradition of creating Glen Ord whisky for the Diageo which also includes the exotic whiskies in “Hidden Malts” series.
In the year 2007, three latest single malt Scotch whisky of Singleton was introduced, all around the world, surprisingly manufactured at three distinctive distilleries, Glen Ord, Dufftown and Glendullan. As a departure from ideology of “Classic Malts” these single malts are a deviation.
“Singlemalt” the name is actually booked for any item from the Auchroisk whisky distillery
