Glenkinchie
Manufactured at the Glenkinchie Distillery, located in East Lothian, Glenkinchie is an exotic single malt scotch whisky, and is one of the produced rare three Lowland whiskies. It is also commonly renowned as “the Edinburgh Malt”.
The Distillery
As per the name goes, lying in the glen of Kinchie Burn which is around the Pencaitland, East Lothian village, 15 miles away from Edinburgh. Situated in a farm land, De Quincy are the real possessors of the land. Established in the year 1825, by John and George Rate, who were brothers, the initial name was given as Milton distillery. The distillery had a halt in the malting process in the year 1969. It did not malt grains further and thus the malting floors were transformed into a malt whiskey museum. Till 1989, the Glenkinchie brand name was hardly known, since the United Distillers were marketing the bottle in the name of their Classic Malts brand.
Great barely lands, that grows all around the gardens of the Scottish lands are all watered by the water that flowed down the hills. This pure barely became a must at the Glenkinchie Distillery, during 1837, when the regional farmers John and George Rate became the original license holders. Gradually in 1853, the production was stopped, however the boundaries were open, that is when the wine merchants, all the way from Leith and Edinburgh re-built the Glenkinchie Distillery Co. Ltd.
Glenkinchie was then finally again constructed back in the year 1890s in the model of the Victorian distillery, which is well known today for its definite buildings of red bricks, worker’s houses and also a specific bowling green.
