History:
The Johnnie Walker Brand, which was formerly known as “Walker’s Kilmarnock Whisky” can rightly be regarded as the John Jonnie Walker’s legacy which initiated the moment he started selling whisky in his Ayrshire, Scotland’s grocer shop. Though, he made the brand popular but the right credit for making it one of the most popular brands across the world goes to his son and grandson Alexander Walker and Alexander Walker II. Under the leadership of John Walker, the whisky sales accounted for about 8% of the total firm’s income, but when John Walker was about to pass the ownership of the company to his own sons, this amount raised to about 90 – 95%.
The iconic square bottle of Johnnie Walker whisky was introduced in 1870 by Alexander Walker. This enhanced productivity as there were fewer broken bottles and more bottles can be arranged in same space. Another characteristic feature of the bottle is its unique label applied at 24 degrees angle which results in larger and more visible text on the label.
In 1908, under the Managing Directorship of James Stevenson, the name of the Whisky was changed to Johnnie Walker Whisky from Walker’s Kilmarnock Whiskies. Along with this, a slogan “Born 1820 – Still Going Strong” was created and was placed along the striding man, which was a figure created in the honor of the founder of the whisky and was used in all the advertisements.
